We gave INEC N40m for PVC/CVR -SHEMA

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, received N40 million from the Katsina State government for the conduct of Permanent Voter Card, PVC, and Continuous Voter Registration, CVR, exercises in the state.
Governor Ibrahim Shema, who disclosed this in a chat with newsmen yesterday, said the money was meant for logistics including purchase of additional computers and generators.
Shema said the state’s 34 council areas had before now been contributing in logistics assistance to INEC and had been instructed to do so for both exercises.
The governor however lamented slow pace of ongoing PVC exercise in the state, even as he complained of being kept waiting for hours on Saturday due to late arrival of materials at his card collection centre.
He said he had received reports of setbacks and “hiccups here and there” on the exercise, adding that council areas like Kankia and Funtua were yet to have the cards ready for issuing as at yesterday afternoon.
He, therefore, called on INEC to shift by seven days each the PVC and CVR exercise to enable people get their cards and perform the civic responsibility come next year’s polls.
