Adamawa bans tricycle in Yola during Xmas



Yola—The Adamawa government yesterday, banned the use of tricycles in Yola, the Adamawa capital during the Christmas period, the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports.

A statement issued by Mr Phineas Elisha, the Director, Public Affairs to Gov. Bala Ngilari in Yola noted that the ban would be effective as from yesterday, December 24 to Friday, December 26.

The statement quoted Elisha as saying “his excellency, the Governor of Adamawa State, Mr Bala Ngilari, after due consultations with the state Commissioner of Police, has banned the use of tricycles popularly known as ‘Keke NAPEP’ as from December 24 to December 26.

“Government regrets any inconvenience caused by the action and request the public to be calm and law abiding in the interest of state security.”

NAN reports that the state government had already banned the use of motorcycles in major towns of the state in 2012 following series of attacks by Boko Haram insurgents.
